Editing and Maintenance

Videotape Events

  • 1.Set up interviews with venders at trade shows
  • 2.Set up interviews with engineers, product creators or specialists
  • 3.Videotape sales reps when they visit store with new products
  • 4.Videotape demonstrations
  • 5.Videotape special events and meetings
  • 6.Videotape scheduled Product Clinics
  • 7.Videotape World instruments with specialist
  • 8.Set up shooting dates with school instructors
  • 9.Videotape Educational videos with instructors at school

 

Capture video

  • 1.Configure Premier for best quality capturing for video
  • 2.Configure Premier for best quality capturing for audio
  • 3.View videos from camcorder or VCR deck
  • 4.Decide where the basic edits will be
  • 5.Capture videos into the Mac from the Camcorder using Premier
  • 6.Create a batch capture list and EDL of edit points
  • 7.Capture product line videos into the Mac from the VCR using Premier
  • 8.Prepare captured videos for importing into Premier
  • 9.Defragment  media hard drive for smoother transfers and editing
  • 10.Capture parts of video that will be used in clips (rough cut)

 

Editing

  • 1.Import captured video into Premier for editing
  • 2.Edit down the rough cuts into precise clips
  • 3.Place clips into order of complete movie
  • 4.Decide where the edits will need transitions, fades, effects
  • 5.Edit transitions
  • 6.Place transitions between scenes clips
  • 7.Create a preview movie or render edits
  • 8.Create titles and subtitles for each movie in graphics programs
  • 9.Import title graphics into Premier
  • 10.Place titles in movie and edit transition for titles (usually a crossfade)
  • 11.Export audio tracks for editing save as AIFF
  • 12.Edit the soundtrack using sound editing software if necessary
  • 13.Use Audio plug-ins to de-noise and enhance the audio
  • 14.Configure Premiere and plug ins to remove ambient noise and tape hiss
  • 15.Add other soundtrack music if needed
  • 16.Import edited soundtrack back into Premier
  • 17.Place soundtrack into movie
  • 18.Synchronize audio with video using time-code and cues.
  • 19. Export complete edited movie in native Quicktime CODEC for importing into MCP

 

Compressing Video and Audio / Uploading to Web Server

  • 1.Launch Media Cleaner Pro
  • 2.Create a new batch for the format being compressed
  • 3.Configure MCP for each format being compressed (Realmedia, MP3 or Quicktime)
  • 4.Test configuration on a short clip for best results
  • 5.Decide which CODEC will be used for iMac videos and kiosks
  • 6.Decide which CODEC will be used for QuickTime streaming
  • 7.Which CODEC for progressive download
  • 8.Configure CODEC for best result
  • 9.Drag folder of videos being compressed to MCP
  • 10.Create a destination folder on drive for compressed videos
  • 11.Compress videos
  • 12.Test each video for play back quality
  • 13.Defragment and optimize hard drives
  • 14.Back up hard drives to tape or server if there is one
  • 15.The raw uncompressed video gets backed up to free up space
  • 16.Burn back up copies to CD ROM give to writers for web
  • 17.Enter new movies into the Video Database
  • 18.Give copy of media to copy writers for a short description
  • 19.Email Creative Director and President with a progress report
  • 20.Upload compressed videos to the zZounds server
  • 21.Notify HTML team of the additions for them to create link

 

Equipment Maintenance for Suite

  • 1.Keep a maintenance schedule
  • 2.Optimize and de-fragment all hard drives
  • 3.Backup all main OS and program drives
  • 4.Optimize and configure Mac OS for best performance
  • 5.Install all software needed for capturing , editing ,compressing and backup
  • 6.Install video capture card and drivers
  • 7.Install audio card and drivers
  • 8.Keep all software optimized for best performance with cards
  • 9.Keep camcorder clean heads, rollers, pins
  • 10.Keep camcorder ready for taping batteries, DV tape cables mics
  • 11. Research the Net for advances in technology
  • 12.Keep the software used updated with the latest versions
  • 13.Learn how to utilize updated software into project (learn programs)

 

Other Responsibilities

  • 1.Maintenance for all of the store iMacs
  • 2.Optimize iMac drives for video playback
  • 3.Install latest videos on iMacs per department
  • 4.Request any needed software or hardware to IT manager.
  • 5.Weekly  update meetings in Conference room
  • 6.Some of these responsibilities can be broken down into smaller tasks. Some are more laborious than others. Some tasks take a lot longer than others.
     

Each video format for the web or iMac has to have a pass through the compression software. This can be time consuming. The faster the computer, the more ram and faster the hard drives, the faster the process.
